Ingredients

  • 2 apples
  • 2 teaspoons of cinnamon or 2 cinnamon sticks
  • 2 teaspoons of sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1/2 cup of water

Directions

1 Turn on the oven and preheat to 350ºF.

2 Wash the apples thoroughly and extract their core along with the pips with the help of an apple corer or, otherwise, a knife.

3 Insert a teaspoon of butter in the center of each apple and a teaspoon of sugar. Next, sprinkle a teaspoon of cinnamon powder or insert a cinnamon stick into each apple.

4 Put the apples in an ovenproof bowl and add the water.

5 Bake for 30 – 50 minutes. The time will depend on the type of apple you use. Gradually the apples will begin to crack and their skin color will take on a golden hue. At this time it will be necessary to check if the inside is tender and, in this case, remove them from the oven.

6 Serve and pour the juices that are left in the bowl on top of the apples.

Filling the apple.

The most basic recipe is prepared with butter and sugar as the filling of the apples. However, you can substitute the sugar with any other sweetener you like, either liquid or granulated, such as maple sugar, brown sugar, honey or even cacao. In addition, you can also add a pinch of your favourite dried fruit or nut.

Serve with something else.

Serve warm with a splash of cold vanila ice cream or a natural yogurt.

Pour another type of liquid.

In this recipe, we add some water in the baking dish before putting the apples in the oven. This helps during the baking process to achieve a more soften texture and avoids the apple to stick to the bowl. However, you can substitute the water with another liquid like apple cider or apple juice if you prefer to achive a sweeter sauce.
